    What Sets Bespoke Curtains Apart?

Bespoke curtains are made to the precise dimensions of your windows using fabrics selected specifically for your space. Unlike ready-made curtains that come in standard widths and drops, bespoke curtains are designed to create the exact look and function you want — whether that is a dramatic floor-length drape, a tailored Roman-style finish, or a practical blackout solution.

The difference between off-the-shelf and made-to-measure becomes immediately obvious once installed. Bespoke curtains hang properly, stack neatly when drawn, and create consistent fullness across the window. The lining, interlining and heading are all selected to suit the fabric weight and the room's requirements.

Curtains serve multiple purposes beyond aesthetics. They provide thermal insulation, acoustic dampening, UV protection for furniture and flooring, and complete privacy when closed. In older Sussex properties with draughty sash windows, well-made lined curtains can make a noticeable difference to warmth and comfort.

Our service covers every step: we visit your home with fabric books, help you choose the right material and style, measure your windows precisely, have the curtains manufactured to our specifications, and install the track or pole and dress the curtains professionally.

    Why Ready-Made Curtains Often Disappoint

Ready-made curtains come in limited sizes that rarely match your windows exactly. Too short and they look awkward. Too long and they puddle on the floor. Too narrow and they fail to cover the window properly. These compromises undermine the entire purpose of having curtains.

Fabric quality in mass-produced curtains is typically lower grade. Thin linings allow light through, provide minimal insulation and cause the fabric to fade quickly. Cheap heading tape creates uneven pleats that look messy from day one and worsen with each wash or steam.

Hanging curtains on the wrong track or pole system creates daily frustration. Heavy fabrics on lightweight tracks cause sagging and jamming. Insufficient stack-back means the curtains cover part of the window even when fully open, reducing natural light. These are problems that simply do not occur with a professionally planned installation.

Many customers try to save money on curtains and end up spending more in the long run — replacing faded fabrics, upgrading hardware, or paying for alterations. Investing in properly made curtains from the outset gives you a product that looks better, performs better and lasts significantly longer.

    Key Benefits

    Thermal Insulation

Lined and interlined curtains significantly reduce heat loss through windows, particularly effective in period properties with single glazing or draughty frames.

    UV Protection

Quality curtain fabrics and linings block harmful UV rays that cause furniture, carpets and artwork to fade prematurely.

    Complete Blackout

Blackout-lined curtains provide total darkness for bedrooms, nurseries and media rooms — essential for light-sensitive sleepers and shift workers.

    Acoustic Dampening

Heavy curtain fabrics absorb sound, reducing noise from outside and between rooms. Particularly valuable for properties on busy roads or in urban areas.

    Long-Lasting Investment

Well-made bespoke curtains last 15–20 years with proper care. The cost per year of use makes them significantly better value than cheap replacements every 3–5 years.

    Fabrics, Headings, Linings and Hardware

We source fabrics from leading textile manufacturers including Warwick, Clarke & Clarke, iLiv and Prestigious Textiles. Our range spans cottons, linens, velvets, silks, wools and synthetic blends in hundreds of colours, patterns and textures. We bring physical sample books to your home so you can see and feel each fabric before committing.

Heading styles determine how the curtain gathers and hangs. Pencil pleat is the most common — versatile and suitable for most tracks and poles. Pinch pleat creates a more tailored, structured look. Wave heading provides a contemporary, ripple effect ideal for modern interiors. Eyelet heading threads directly onto a pole for a casual, unfussy appearance.

Lining serves three functions: it protects the face fabric from UV damage, improves thermal performance, and creates a uniform appearance from outside. Standard cotton sateen lining is suitable for most applications. Blackout lining blocks 100% of light. Interlining adds a padded middle layer for maximum insulation and a luxurious drape.

Track systems are either corded (drawn by hand-pull cord), uncorded (drawn by hand), or motorised. For heavy curtains or hard-to-reach windows, we recommend motorised tracks that can be operated by remote control or integrated with smart home systems. Metal and wooden poles are available for decorative exposed hardware.

For bay windows, we use flexible track systems that follow the curve or angles of the bay precisely. Each section is measured individually to ensure the curtains draw smoothly around corners without bunching or catching.

Commercial curtain installations — for hotels, restaurants, care homes and offices — require fire-retardant fabrics meeting BS 5867 standards. We supply FR-inherent and FR-treated fabrics in a wide range of colours and textures suitable for public-facing environments.
